Essential Oil Blends for Children

As I was browsing my Instagram feed last week I came across a post by The Drip Drop Shop that featured a newly released “Bee Well” Kids Collection. There are not many things that make me feel as though life will not go on without them but this was one of those situations. With my daughter’s enthusiasm and a pre-order discount, I knew I couldn’t pass it up.

As soon as I had my hands on the kit I went to brainstorming what I’d put in them. Alaina eagerly observed as I dropped essential oils into her water colored bug bottles and she couldn’t wait until I finished them to start applying. Between the two of us we had a serious aroma going throughout the house. Now she has her own personal blends to use throughout the day and we’re both happy about that!

I couldn’t keep this good stuff all to myself so I decided to share with my oily sisters! Check out The Drip Drop Shop on Instagram and enjoy these blends I put together that are perfectly suited for your little one.

DIY: Natural Facial Moisturizer

I’m always looking for different ways to incorporate essential oils into our lifestyle. Recently I failed miserably, it was so bad. I had researched different shampoo and conditioner recipes and read the results from each until I reached the dreadful computer screen coma.

That point where you just need to get outside and go for a walk, to breathe in something other than A/C and to see something other than pixels.

I decided to try a coconut milk based shampoo and a conditioner that incorporated coconut oil and shea butter. It was a mess, a complete disaster. I then tried the no shampoo method where you mix water with baking soda and apply to the scalp. You don’t follow with a traditional “conditioner” but instead a rinse of apple cider vinegar and water. It was better but not what I could imagine using on a daily basis. So I threw caution to the wind and dyed my hair silver. I purchased color protective shampoo for myself and Young Living lavender shampoo for my family.

Everyone and their hair is satisfied.

After the shampoo and conditioner failure (before the silver hair) I dusted my knees off and went onto the next oily quest: facial moisturizer

I’m happy to report that it was a success!

My skin feels moisturized, looks clearer, and has a smoother appearance when I wear makeup. I apply it to my face, neck, and chest area after showering/bathing at night and in the morning before I apply my makeup. While I plan to keep the base of the recipe the same, I can already see myself playing around with the essential oil blend each time I make a new batch.

MOI

Below is the recipe for the current blend I’m using that has nourished my skin on a whole new level.

Unrefined Shea Butter – Rich in vitamins A, E and fatty acids. Reduces skin irritations, evens out skin tone and wrinkles, and is non-comedogenic so it can be used on sensitive or acne-prone skin

Grapeseed Oil – Contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties to treat acne, tighten skin, and relieve dark under eye circles.

Abundance – An essential oil blend by Young Living containing: Orange, Frankincense, Patchouli, Clove, Ginger, Myrrh, Cinnamon Bark, and Spruce.

Melrose – An essential oil blend by Young Living containing: Melaleuca, Melaleuca Quinquenervia, Rosemary Cineol, and Clove.

½ C. Shea Butter
2 T. Grapeseed Oil
20 drops YL Abundance EO
7 drops YL Lavender EO
7 drops YL Melrose EO

DIRECTIONS
• Melt shea butter in a sauce pan over medium heat
• Add in grapeseed oil and stir
• Transfer mixture to a mixing bowl and place in freezer to cool for about 10 minutes
• Add in essential oils and lightly whip with an electric mixer until smooth
•
Spoon into a 4 oz mason jar with lid or your preferred glass container
•
Apply a dime size amount to face after cleansing or when needed.

DIY: Essential Oil Blends

Joining Young Living has been one of the best decisions I’ve made this year, they offer a variety of products that promote health and wellness. I use my oils every day, all day long and now I can’t imagine not having them around. I was excited about my most recent essential rewards order that had 2 free oils {aroma seiz & ravinstara} free thieves cleaner, my purchase of copaiba, and these convenient rollerball caps.

rollerball

To make these blends I first cleaned up empty oil bottles I had put aside {don’t trash your empty bottles}, wrapped them with washi tape and labeled with a marker. I followed the recipes below then topped off the bottles with grape seed oil and attached the rollerball caps. Enjoy!

Skin
{apply directly on any skin irritation}
7 drops lavender
7 drops tea tree

Motivation
{apply to wrist, temples, & back of neck when you need a push during the day}
5 drops geranium
5 drops orange
5 drops lavender

Sleep
{apply to wrists, bottom of feet, temples, & back of neck before bed}
5 drops lavender
5 drops cedarwood
5 drops copaiba

Wake Up!
{apply to wrists, neck, and temples first thing in the morning}

5 drops black pepper

The Official Deodorant Recipe

I’ve known about the harmful chemicals in antiperspirants for a while but I didn’t know what other option I had so I just accepted it. When I received my Young Living essential oils kit I was inspired to use them to make a natural deodorant and I’m so happy I did.

The first step in this process was accepting that I was going to sweat. For many years I chose antiperspirants so that no sweat would leave that area of my body. Yes, completely unhealthy. I made the easiest recipe I could find with ingredients I already had on hand. I melted and combined the ingredients into a mason jar and used a wooden craft stick as my applicator. I did this for a few days and I noticed that I wasn’t smelling the way I had intended to (even after multiple applications) but I refused to give up!

I started doing more research and during this time I learned about Purification essential oil. It doesn’t cover up odors but goes in and kills the odor. Aha! If the odor that comes from our bodies is caused by bacteria leaving, then incorporating this oil would help to combat that smell. It did!

Another thing I didn’t like about the trial deodorant was its consistency. Coconut oil has a low melting point so there were areas of liquid in the jar along with solid parts. What was I going to do when traveling? Add beeswax!

I melted down what I had already made, added beeswax and incorporated Purification into the mixture. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. I have found that I actually smell better than I did when using the antiperspirants. I think this has something to do with letting your body work the way it was designed. I’m so thankful I found these oils. They remove toxins from the area where they are applied so I like to think that every time I apply my deodorant, I’m actually detoxifying that area of my body.

Natural Deodorant Recipe

1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup beeswax
1/3 cup arrowroot powder
1/4 baking soda
10 drops YL lavender essential oil
10 drops YL purification essential oil
5 drops YL tea tree essential oil
Deodorant containers

In a double boiler melt down coconut oil and beeswax. Stir in arrowroot powder and baking soda until you reach a smooth consistency then add in oils and stir a few more times. Pour liquid into containers and put in refrigerator to harden. Once they are firm (about 15 minutes) you can move them to your cabinet to store.

This recipe makes enough to fill up three containers and still have a little extra. If you notice a hole in the middle of the container after the mixture has hardened just pour the extra onto it. You can also purchase clear sticker paper to print a label for a personalized touch.

Be blessed!

Solution for the “Lived-In” Home

vivid

I was planning to wait awhile before sharing Young Living because I wanted to have a complete knowledge of the products and personal experience using them. I realized it would be quite some time before I could try every oil, cleaning product, nutrition supplement, and personal care item. Also, I fell in love with my essentials kit and found so many uses that it’s hard to not share. Although I’ve only scratched the surface with essential oils, I’m convinced we will be together forever. Soon after I received my oils I set a mixture to diffuse before I left our home and when I returned later that evening our home smelled fresh and invigorating. I didn’t know this experience was possible and in my head I was holding hands with an oil bottle suited person and skipping off into paradise. There it was, we had found one another.

We live in an older home that has its own set-in, permanent, everlasting “smell”. Not an odor but a… signature smell. I would mask this with a candle or a wax warmer and the fragrance would last as long as the wax was burning/melting but now I’ve found a solution that outlasts that “lived-in” fragrance. I took to pinterest and essential oil blogs in search of inspiration and I found just that. I learned that you can utilize the oils in your home without using a diffuser. I personally love the diffuser and I want one for every room but I also like being able to take a bottle and spray whatever room I’m in.

I also found cleaning mixtures for all areas of the house and I put them to use. Now I can spray my own furniture cleaner without holding my breath and being concerned if it’s going to make contact with the kids. I can blissfully spray away and inhale the air around me without ingesting unknown chemicals. I know what I put in the bottle, I know what I’m breathing in.

 And now I share with you my latest discoveries…
